Former Texas Tech track and field standouts Omo Osaghae and Tori Polk both advanced through preliminary rounds Saturday at the IAAF World Championships in Sopot, Poland.
Osaghae, a Monterey graduate and Lubbock resident, finished second in his heat and fifth overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.61 seconds.
By finishing top three in his heat, the three-time U.S. champion qualified automatically for the semifinals at 8:45 a.m. CDT today. The top two in each of three heats and the next two fastest times advance to the finals scheduled for 11:20 a.m. CDT today.
