One month shy of two years of straight growth, the Lubbock Economic Index slightly dropped to end the streak. While last year ended in record territory, the first month of 2014 showed a few bumps in the local economy. The rate of year-over year employment growth strengthened in January, but declined in other sectors of the economy, resulting in a slight drop in the Lubbock Economic Index.
January’s index fell to 139.1, down from the revised 139.3 in December, but up 4.8 percent from the same month last year, according to the report provided by Lubbock National Bank.
