Middle school students from seven Lubbock Independent School District campuses gathered around a kiddie pool Monday to test their handmade boats as part of the 2014 STEM Challenge mini challenge.
On Monday, the boats carried marbles. Friday, they’ll carry humans.
For the first time, Texas Tech and LISD have organized a multi-school competitive STEM Challenge. The highlight of the week-long competition will be Friday at the Pete Ragus Aquatic Center, where students will race boats made solely of cardboard and duct tape.
And there’s a catch.
