Tommy Hancock must be smiling at the thought of his counter-culture days being honored four decades later in the West Texas city where he influenced musicians ranging from Flatlanders to members of the Maines family.

Hancock, 85, and his wife, Charlene, each were inducted into the West Texas Walk of Fame in 2012, along with Lloyd Maines (again) and the late Jesse “Guitar” Taylor. Most local music followers were aware, however, that Tommy had been asked in prior years.
