Rudy Zapata was overwhelmed when he arrived in McAllen and saw the children and adults in need of basic necessities.
Zapata of Lubbock headed to the U.S.-Mexico border earlier this week to ensure the humanitarian needs of those being detained by the U.S. Border Patrol are being addressed.
Zapata, a Lubbock Salvation Army Disaster Response Team volunteer, said, on a daily basis, between 160 and 200 individuals make their way through the kitchen he’s volunteering at.
