Lubbock street crews were preparing to fix a water main break just before 5 p.m. Friday at Avenue Q and 19th Street.
Before crews can begin fixing the leak, north- and southbound traffic on Avenue Q must be reduced to one lane in each direction, according to a city news release.
It is not known how long repairs will take to complete, however, it could be next week before repairs are finished and the road is completely reopened.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible.
The cause of the leak also was unknown late Friday afternoon, according to the release.
