Six Lubbock-area high school seniors have been named as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship program.
They are David Chen, Kalhan Koul, Rachel Smith, Reagan Stuart and Avianna Vyff of Lubbock High School and Cheryl Aguas of Trinity Christian School.
The semifinalists are six of 16,000 American students chosen from a pool of 1.5 million who entered the competition as juniors in 2012, according to a news release from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They were selected based on their 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores.
