Lubbock sales tax take up 4 percent

Lubbock’s sales tax payment this month will be a little more than 4 percent higher than last September’s, according to figures released Wednesday, Sept. 11 by the Comptroller of Public Accounts.

The comptroller will distribute the money Friday, Sept. 13, to cities, counties and special taxing districts.

Lubbock will receive a little more than $4.5 million, up 4.21 percent from the $4.32 million it received a year ago.

Ashley Knox, marketing manager for South Plains Mall, noted sales were strong in July as customers began back-to-school shopping earlier than usual.
