Lubbock has options in energy production
Recent discussions about building a new power plant for Lubbock seem to fail to consider many recent innovations in energy production. We are asked to lock ourselves into millions of dollars in expenditures going forward for 15 years to construct a plant which may be obsolete before it is completed.
Photovoltaic cells have doubled in efficiency every two years for the last 10 years. Production costs have decreased by 50 percent every two years for the last 10 years, and they require no addition to infrastructure.
