Lubbock artist and teacher Vivian T. Cooke’s name will be added to a portion of the City of Lubbock Cemetery that currently features her 2011 sculpture “A Golden Day.”
Areas of the cemetery known as the African-American Babyland sections were renamed the Vivian T. Cooke Memorial Babyland by a City Council resolution.
Cooke’s 2011 sculpture, “A Golden Day,” now serves as a marker for the children who were buried in the cemetery without much recognition.
