Rena Morrell of Snyder Independent School District won A-J Media’s 63rd Regional Spelling Bee Saturday morning at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
The 12-year-old seventh-grader, who placed fourth two years ago, will now represent the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal in the Scripps National Spelling Bee on May 25 in Washington, D.C.
Morell and Ashleigh Hanna of Levelland ISD were the last two students standing going into the 10th round. Morrell correctly spelled disdainful, then had to spell another word to win the bee. She correctly spelled strenuous to end the competition.
