Tech 1B Gutierrez earns Big 12 honor
Texas Tech sophomore first baseman Eric Gutierrez was named Monday the Big 12 Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his efforts in leading the Red Raiders to a Big 12 sweep of Kansas State.
Gutierrez is the first Red Raider to earn the honor since 2011.
For the week, which included a 19-2 win over Abilene Christian, Gutierrez hit .533 (8 for 15) with five runs, three doubles, a home run, seven RBIs, a .933 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base average.
