Some Lubbock homeowners will be seeing a 15 percent discount on flood insurance thanks to a better flood rating by the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System.
Lubbock was ranked at a Class 7, effective May 1.
The rating program is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that help resident prevent or reduce flood losses, according to a news release from the city. Participating cities are ranked between Class 1 and Class 9 based on points received for 18 activities.
